One of my best friends, who also attended John Carroll University, introduced me to Science of Mind. Those Jesuits really know how to nurture an inquisitive spirit! With her, I attended my first service at one of the Centers for Spiritual Living in Denver, Colorado called Mile Hi. I was blown away. The mission of these centers, which are all across the United States, is to share, study and practice the teachings of Ernest Holmes. These spiritual communities also refer to his teachings as Science of Mind. So let us begin with the question: who is Ernest Holmes?
Who is Ernest Holmes?
Ernest Shurtleff Holmes was born on January 21, 1887 in Lincoln Maine. He was an American author, teacher and leader during his lifetime. Dr. Holmes is known as the founder of a Spiritual movement known as Religious Science. This spiritual philosophy is called “The Science of Mind.” He was the author of The Science of Mind and numerous other metaphysical books, and the founder of Science of Mind magazine, in continuous publication since 1927. He passed on April 7, 1960 but his books remain in print, and the principles he taught as “Science of Mind” have inspired and influenced many generations of metaphysical students and teachers.
Dr. Holmes developed a philosophy and tools for spiritual living that were welcoming of all faiths. Providing us with a personal spiritual path, he sought to bring us to an understanding of our relationship with the Universe. Centers for Spiritual Living still today study his writings and his teachings in an atmosphere of freedom, love and respect. If you are seeking to read some of his works, I would suggest his book entitled This Thing Called You.
What is Science of Mind all about?
There is so much to learn about Science of Mind. Although I have taken a few courses and read many of his books, there is always more to learn. This video below is by Rev. Lee Wolak. He is a true teacher and spiritual leader. Start your journey here!
In my research and journey with Science of Mind, I was amazed to find that there is actual footage of Ernest Holmes from 1956. Listening to the master himself was inspiring. The principles are so simple and yet we often drift from what we inherently know. I have included this video for you to watch and I hope you will feel re-energized after watching and listening!
I hope you will stop back often as I continue to share my love and learning of Science of the Mind and Ernest Holmes. These teachings resonate so well with my mediumship abilities that my quest for spiritual growth is enriched. The best part is that I am just beginning! Here is a quote by Ernest Holmes to contemplate today:
